"Hello, my name is Barbara Hughes and I’m the Vice Chair and after 4 years as a parent governor, now a co-opted governor. Both my daughters have now left Moss Hall and are at The Compton School.

I’m passionate about our school and work had to be a good school governor. I regularly attend training courses and try and come into school as often as possible to see the hard work of staff and children in action. I think we’re lucky that all the children have a strong sense of identity with Moss Hall and enjoy a happy and safe environment in which they can flourish. I support the leadership team in their ambitious targets for the future, including taking the school from a good to outstanding level, whilst meeting the diverse needs of all of our children. We are lucky to have some great members of staff with the children enjoying a wonderful music provision and a fantastic array of clubs and extra-curricular opportunities.

I have had a long career as a Company Secretary – for many years in the commercial sector, before taking a career break in 2007 to look after my children. From 2009 – 2012 I worked at Moss Hall Infants School. I have now returned to the Company Secretarial sector, working for a local Accountancy firm.

The knowledge of good governance I have developed at work has been very useful in my School Governor role – where the management and practices of the governing body are coming under increasing scrutiny from Ofsted. We are continually reviewing and developing the way we work to ensure we are offering the maximum support to the school’s leadership team whilst always maintaining a questioning approach."
